Knowledge. Action. Excellence.
We believe that clear thinking is the foundation of right action. Whether in the classroom or the field, sound judgment begins with the disciplined use of reason.
We serve decision-makers as well as the educators and mentors who guide their development. Our mission is to create resources that are clear and practical, but also rigorous in content. From peer-reviewed research to hands-on training materials, ReasonWorks stands for moral clarity and professional excellence.
Our products are designed by scholar-practitioners who understand both the rigor of academic reasoning and the realities of professional decision-making.
Our Mission
Our Pillars
Knowledge.
Every decision begins with understanding. We equip professionals with clear, accessible, and intellectually serious content that deepens judgment and sharpens perspective.
Action.
Knowledge must move. We focus on real-world application by creating educational resources and providing guidance that translates principles into practice and supports confident decision-making under pressure.
Excellence.
We hold ourselves to the highest standards in every domain because public trust and professional integrity demand nothing less.
ReasonWorks is a company focused on improving judgment. We develop educational materials, provide support services, and publish applied research. Our work combines philosophical training with field experience in public safety to support professionals responsible for shaping others or acting in complex situations. Each project is built around the need for clarity and accountability in environments that rarely allow easy answers.
About the Founder
ReasonWorks was founded by Tim Hsiao, a philosophy professor and Kansas law enforcement officer with over a decade of full-time university teaching experience. His academic work focuses on bridging the gap between abstract theory and practical application, particularly in ethics and public policy.
His background spans higher education, instructional design, sworn law enforcement service, and more than 30 peer-reviewed publications in applied ethics and political philosophy. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in philosophy from Florida State University and is currently a research fellow at the University of Wyoming Firearms Research Center.
His academic work in applied ethics led naturally to issues in criminal justice, which sparked a deeper interest in law enforcement. While still teaching full-time, he completed police academy training and now serves part-time as a sworn officer for two Kansas municipalities and as a contractor for a federal law enforcement agency.
